Dr. Berroya will sit down with you to discuss the symptoms of your vein problem, take a complete medical history, and perform a thorough physical examination. Our Vascular Technician will also perform a non-invasive venous duplex ultrasound testing of the legs. Photographs and drawings will be taken to map the size and the location of the diseased veins. Photographs are also required for Medicare and some insurance companies.
Based on all this information, we will recommend an individualized treatment plan and will answer any questions you and your family have about how the options presented will address your needs and expectations. We will explain the technical aspects of each of the recommended procedures in great detail, discuss the associated risks and foreseeable complications, and will provide an honest, realistic picture of the anticipated outcome of the treatment options. The Vein Center believes that using a holistic approach to the care of patients yields the best results, so your consultation may also include a thorough discussion of the importance of regular exercise, dietary changes/weight loss, leg elevation, use of compression stockings, and options regarding changes in work habits/conditions, etc. if it appears that such recommendations may be beneficial in the prevention of future venous disease.
At the Vein Center, we take a very conservative approach to our treatment of venous disease. We are committed to identifying treatments that are most likely to improve both the health of your veins today and in the future by recommending options that we believe will help you avoid invasive surgical treatment in the medium and/or long term.
