Our Vascular Laboratory, established in 1975, was among the first on Long Island to be accredited by the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratory, and has continued to be accredited annually . Our two vascular technologists have years of experience performing venous and arterial duplex ultrasound studies.
The diagnostic venous duplex ultrasound examination is a painless, non-invasive imaging test, which uses sound waves to create detailed pictures of the vein anatomy and the blood flow within the vein. This makes it possible to locate the source of the vein problem. During the testing, a warm, water soluble, hypoallergenic gel is applied on the skin and a probe is placed on and moved over the skin to produce pictures or images of the veins which are then viewed on a computer screen. The venous ultrasound examination allows us to detect the presence of potentially serious vein conditions, like blood clots inside the veins. You may be asked to stand and/or lie down during the different parts of the ultrasound examination.
